Accepted into BuildspaceS4 to spend 6 weeks alongside other builders creating a project of choice. I decided to test myself during this time to experiment with new technologies and explore a side of storytelling I've been dreaming of diving into.
My initial goal was to gamify introspection and self-healing; I wanted to create an interactive web playground you explore through a funny avatar. you start as a blob and work through a maze of puzzles you encounter to “find yourself”.
Building the terrain and first interactive puzzle made me realize how my initial scope was too big for someone just learning how to code. I completed an environment, movement, and collision before changing my tactics and pivoting to an easier plot to try.
Also, getting feedback from the test helped me see I needed a lot more in-game indicators to help the player along (which I was utterly lost on how to code).
I changed the plot to something a lot more simple (and something I estimated I could get to through trial and error by the end of these 6 weeks): a farmer harvesting some grass. I still wanted to stay in line with my original theme of "self-healing" which manifested itself through the cute avatar and nice music.
Then I played around with Blender which I definitely had the most fun with. Meet Bobo, my rice farmer <3
Ooh boy I'd definitely recruit a developer haha. I honestly wish I could have spent more time on actually designing a gameplay, the UI, and the story/characters. But I sure learned a lot on this project and am amazed at the heights a couple Youtube tutorials and grit can get you.
